The V7ndotcom Elursrebmem SEO contest is now on day 5. Here are some things I've noticed.
- Google is now reporting 238,000 pages that match the V7ndotcom Elursrebmem search term. That's a huge increase from 10 on day 1.
- The top 4 spots in Google are held by domains with the search terms in the domain name. I'm reading that these sites are showing at the top because of what is referred to as the freshness filter. Apparently this freshness filter pushes new sites to the top of the search results for a week or so. After that time, the Google sandbox is expected to kick and knock these sites from the top spot.
- For some reason my contest page isn't showing up at all in Google. My posts often appear within a few days of going live so I'm not entirely sure what the delay is this time around.
- A black hat team (those that use tricks to rank highly) named Taggle have entered the contest. These guys are apparently popular, but it's the first time I've heard of them.
- A lot of people are saying they will donate the proceeds to charity. This is a smart move since winning the contest could bring in business worth more than the prize money. This tactic might also help with external links since people are more inclined to want to help out a charity.
