Aaron Wall of SEO Book fame has released a Firefox extension that provides interesting SEO-related data in search engine results from Google and Yahoo. I just got through playing with this extension.

There is no question that the SEO extension provides some useful information, but so far it seems a little flaky to me. For some queries, I didn't get any data at all. And for others, the data didn't seem right such as the number of bookmarks in del.icio.us for a particular site I checked.

Also, and I think Aaron should put this warning front and center:

"This extension also has courtesy settings which allow you to ping search engines for data at a slow rate. You probably want to set the delay to at least 1 or more seconds. If you set it at 0 do not be surprised if some of the engines at least temporarily block you for scraping data."

Yikes! Who wants to be banned by search engines? I'm confident this extension will be worked on and improved. I look forward to the day when it is both stable and "safe" to use.
