At the end of December I moved a bunch of SEO content from one blog to the one you're reading now. I made that move because SEO was taking over my other blog which originally had a broader technology focus including software development, project management, and IT in general. This blog, SearchGrit, focus on just SEO and SEM.
Moving a bunch of content made for a good redirect experiment. In particular, how would Google react to so many redirects and would the new site inherit the PageRank from the old site.
Well, the results are in. It appears that Google has published the latest PageRank numbers out to the Google toolbar and this site has gone from 0 to 4. I think that's a strong indicator that redirects will eventually get picked up Google and PageRank will pass through to the destination web site and pages. One caveat though is that I've been pretty active in providing commentary on other blogs many of which permit a link back to this blog. So I've probably contaminated the data a little bit.
And before anyone gets all up in arms, let me say that I know PageRank isn't the be all and end all of search engine optimization. It is however useful as a quick and easy measure for assessing a web site's overall health and as for this week my blog is looking pretty healthy for a 4-month old!

Interesting. I've actually had my site for about 7 or 8 months now, and my PageRank jumped from 0 to 4 within the first month. It has stayed at 4 since then. I was also very active about commenting on other sites, so I'm sure that had a great deal to do with it.
Not sure what it would take to get to 5, but I would imagine it would be quite a jump.
