I recently installed a plug-in on this blog to remove the nofollow attribute from links people submit in the comment headers i.e. the link back to the commenter's web site. The plug-in I use, LinkLove, removes the nofollow attribute after the user posts multiple comments. I figure this'll give me some protection against any spam that sneaks through Akismet as well as providing value to those that just don't stop by to write "nice post".

I figure that others might be encouraged to get on the DoFollow or YesFollow bandwagon if they were shown a list of other sites that have made the switch. Note that the following list initially started out with a focus on SEO blogs, but I'm starting to expand it to include the broader areas of blogging, writing, design, web development, and online marketing. So without further ado, here are the yesfollow / dofollow blogs I know of:

  1. Andy Beard's Niche Marketing
  2. Shell Harris' BigOak SEO
  3. David Ogletree's Expert SEO
  4. Jim Boykin
  5. John Andrews' Competitive Webmastering & SEO
  6. Vlad's My Affiliate Journey
  7. Search Engine Journal
  8. Bill Slawski's SEO by the Sea
  9. Aaron Pratt's SEO Buzz Box
  10. Lynn Terry's ClickNewz
  11. Philip Liu's I Help You Blog
  12. Char's Essential Keystrokes
  13. Michael Stelzner's Writing White Papers
  14. Casey Woods' IT Infusion

If you're inclined to spam these blogs I really recommend against doing so. The last thing you want to do is go head-to-head with folks that work with the search engines for a living! Having said that, I'm sure all of these site owners would appreciate thoughtful commentary on their posts and will have no problem keeping your link intact.

  1. Andy Beard:

Marios feel free to add me to the list, I have been running DoFollow for ages.

When I leave comments I also try to link through to valuable related content, thus linking through to my list of DoFollow plugins.

  2. Marios Alexandrou:

    Andy,

I've added you to the list. It's funny that I missed your site. I think yours one of the first sites that I knew of to remove the nofollow attribute.

  3. Andy Beard:

Wow pride of place right at the top of the list (helps that it is in alpha order)

    Just hit that stumble button

  4. Shell Harris:

Thanks for the link to my blog at Big Oak. I am a big believer in DoFollow and I'm glad to find others are joining in. Keep the link revolution marching on.

I'll post a link to you blog from my DoFollow post to recognize this list. Thanks again.

  5. Marios Alexandrou:

    Hi Shell,

If you come across any other sites let me know. I'm thinking of expanding the list a bit to include people that don't just focus on SEO/SEM. There seem to be a lot of people that don't live and breathe search, but are still good resources.

  6. Vlad:

    Hi Marios,
Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I answered your question (at least I hope I did).

I have been using DoFollow for quiet a while now.

Anyway, I hate to correct you but Search Anyway uses a redirect in the comments. Next time you visit his blog take a closer look.

  7. Marios Alexandrou:

    Vlad,

Thanks for the correction on Search Anyway. I'll take them out of the list. Not sure how they snuck in there :-)

I mentioned in another comment that I'm planning to open the list up to include sites that aren't pure SEO/SEM. I'll include yours.

  8. Vlad:

I feel like sort of "DoFollow Revolution" is in the air??? lol
I Love It. I magine what chaos for Google can be created if for example Problogger would "follow" link in his comments???

  9. ogletree:

http://www.seobythesea.com dose not use nofollow. Nice post. I did a post a while back that gave a list of who was not using it.

  10. Shell Harris:

I have had a few dubious comments that were little more than, "Yes, I agree." But for the most part the comments are on topic and a some even give different opinions. Overall I am still committed to the Dofollow, but I realize some will abuse it no matter what we do.

  11. Marios Alexandrou:

    Ogletree,

I've already got SEO By the Sea listed. However, it does look like 2 on your list are missing from mine. I'm going to have to blatantly copy them :-)

Your post, which beat mine by a couple of months, has some good commentary on it. Thanks for sharing.

  12. ogletree:

Oh I see it now yours started with Bill. I was looking for it to start with seobythesea. My list are sites that use nofollow. Yours is a list of sites that use dofollow.

  13. Marios Alexandrou:

    Ogletree,

I took the "spoke out against nofollow" to mean that those blogs had decided to not use it. However, after checking out the sites I see that nofollow is still in place. Oh well.

  14. ogletree:

Yeah it is kind of confusing when you talk about nofollow and dofollow. One is a tag the other is a plugin that takes away the tag. I should have made it clear.

  15. Andrew Timberlake:

    Marios

Nice to know the plugin is working for you.

  16. Randa Clay:

Want to tell everyone that you've turned off the nofollow in your comments? Check out my new ifollow logos - grab one for your sidebar!

  17. Marios Alexandrou:

    Randa,

It looks like we had similar ideas. Glad to see there are more jumping on the bandwagon.

  18. Cormac Moylan:

Hi Marios, I have dofollow enabled on my blog too. I'm a firm believer that if you have a strict comment policy in place (powerd by Spam Karma or Askimet) then you should reward those who drop by with link juice.

  19. Owen:

Big DoFollow fan here (or should I say i-Follow), I've started using Randa's (couple of comments above) "You Comment - I Follow" graphic above, and would recommend it to anyone who want to show their commitment to following comments.

  20. Marc Chase:

We just started the Do Follow thing at our site thanks to Andy Beard

  21. Marios Alexandrou:

    Marc,

Andy has certainly been instrumental in all of this DoFollow stuff. I'm glad his plug-in resource has achieved such traction.

  22. Char:

Thanks for including me in this list Marios. It is a growing movement and one that can benefit us all!

Don't forget to grab one of Randa's cool I Follow logos.

  23. Richard Hearne (RedCardinal):

Funnily enough, the very first thing I did when I started my blog was remove NOFOLLOW. Of course I'm not quite as well know as some of the folk you list above, but perhaps some day (then again I'm good enough for WebProNews :)

  24. Matt Keegan:

I did the same on my top blog and created a "do follow" article about this very topic.

  25. Susan:

I have been using the DoFollow plug in at my blog for a bit now and I haven't seen an increase in spam comments. Of course I moderate my comments and even if Askimet or Bad Behavior doesn't catch them I normally can before they get a link in place. I haven't implemented Link Love, again because I moderate my comments and delete those that are "spammy" but I can see where it would be a benefit.

I am actually running a challenge now to see just how far the DoFollow movement has grown. If you have a moment and care to stop by the DoFollow Pingback Challenge I would really appreciate it. And don't forget to leave a comment while you are there!

  26. Mike Bogo:

    Hey Marios,

My blog's another that has doFollow enabled :) No change in the amount of spam that I've gotten, although I personally follow more and comment more often on blogs that have do-follow enabled.

    Best,
    Mike Bogo

  27. Stackopolis Oyun:

I also have it enabled on my personal blog but I can't post it since its too personal :) I believe internet lost its religion with nofollow. No one links an another person with nofollow; thinking about pagerank all the time. Sad but true...

  28. Anonymous:

Yup we're joining in and no bad karma as yet!

  29. Marc Chase:

Hopeless - I don't think the seo part is really that bad as long as the comments are relevant. I mean thats kind of the purpose.

People are given incentive to comment via a "do follow link" and the blogger benefits from the input.

As far as Im concerned its all good...just keep the conversation relevant and I have no problems people gaining a little link juice out of it.

  30. Anonymous:

I can across your site while searching about DoFollow. I added DoFollow recently to my blog to encourage comments and so far it is working alright. The only concern I have is people who are trying to use DoFollow sites only for SEO purposes. It is inevitable, but sad.

  31. Anonymous:

It would be cool if these SEO blogs would come up with urls that spam, so that we can block them on wordpress

  32. Sahil @ IM Chat Messenger:

Say if i have 1000 posts with an average of 3 comments .. that means around 3000 links in the comments only.. and when i activate this plugin.. all the past links will also get dofollow... in a way i m adding 3000 dofollow link instatly to my blog... isn't it scary ??

  33. Marios Alexandrou:

    Sahil,

If you have a site that has 1000 posts, it can easily support 3000 links especially if the posts are several hundred words long.

In addition, the plugin I use allows you to specify the number of comments a user has to make before the links have the nofollow removed. This means that only repeat commenters get a link.

  34. Sahil @ IM Chat Messenger:

and how will you check whether those links do not point to any adult site??

  35. Marios Alexandrou:

    Sahil,

Spammers don't write useful comments so the links will disappear along with these comments when you delete them. You should consider using an anti-spam plugin like Akismet. It has filtered thousands and thousands of spam comments for me.

  36. Joost de Valk:

I should be on that list too ;)

  37. Luna Love:

Is it more correct to say dofollow or yesfollow?

  38. Shaun Anderson:

On my personal blog too, now.

  39. Chris:

Hi Marios - I "joined the movement" back in February of this year.

    Pretty liberating, isn't it? :-)

  40. Turnkey Websites:

Bookmarked :) I was looking for that kind of list, thank you.

  41. Life is Colourful:

Found your website while searching for DoFollow websites' list. I joined the same train probably you are travelling in. The first plugin I have installed after moving to wordpress is "DoFollow" from semilogic. This was one of the biggest reason I moved from blogger to wordpress - though some people are coming up with blogger scripts to remove nofollow tag - it’s pretty easy in wordpress and I am happy yo join the "DoFollow" wagon.

I want to pass on the link love, because soon, my blog gonna be PR4-5 in next update as it has gathered 5000+ backlinks in last 3 months.
